5 Benefits of Indian Head Massage

There are genuinely so many benefits to receiving an Indian Head Massage, I have picked 5 of my favourite benefits of this wonderful therapy including ones you may not know.

Here are the benefits of Indian Head Massage:

  • It works!  Tried and tested - it has been around for thousands of years

  • It is a seated therapy with no need to undress

  • More than just massaging the head - it includes neck, shoulders, upper back, upper arms and face

  • Promotes hair growth

  • Brings a deep feeling of calm and peace, so soporific it is possible to fall asleep sitting up

Authentic Complementary Therapy

A traditional Indian Head Massage is a tried and tested complementary therapy  that is thousands of years old. It was introduced to the UK in the 1970s by a remarkable gentleman called Narendha Mehta who came to live in England from India to study physiotherapy. He missed having this massage so much as it is a daily ritual for many in India he returned to India, trained and introduced this wonderful healing therapy to the UK and all over the world.  With computers, digital devices so prevalent and stress so dominant in everyone’s lives today we thank him for introducing his training to us so that we can deliver this amazing massage.

Seated Therapy and No Need to Undress

The traditional Indian Head Massage is a seated therapy and the client does not need to undress.  The treatment can be carried out anywhere, at any time and needs no specialist equipment.  I do however in my treatments encourage the client to have bare shoulders, arms and upper back in order that my clients can have the extra benefit of one of the Ayurvedic natural body oils I use created by Sunita Passi of Tri Dosha (https://tri-dosha.co.uk/product-category/tri-dosha/body-and-massage-oils-tri-dosha/)

Renews Energy Levels

  • Anything that helps to renew the energy within us is always a winner

An authentic Indian Head Massage given by a Holistic therapist who has been trained using traditional techniques will include balancing the Chakras (energy) points in the body making this a healing treatment clearing energy blocks and bringing the body back into balance.  When the body’s energy channels are in alignment you will be amazed at benefits. Here are just a few….

  • Renews energy levels and balances our energy

  • Improves concentration

  • Relieves mental fatigue

  • Helps with sleeplessness, insomnia and restlessness

Relieves tension, reduces stress & helps prevent headaches

We are all suffering built up tension from constant use of computers and digital devices leaving us with aches, pains and stiff muscles in our neck, shoulders and upper back. Indian Head Massage works in these areas massaging and using traditional acupressure techniques to:

  • Release painful knots and break down the lactic acid build up around muscles.

  • Relieves eye strain,

  • Helps to prevent migraines and headaches

  • Encourage supply of blood to the brain which reduces stress

Promotes Hair Growth

Yes really, it does!

When we are stressed our poor scalp also suffers and can get extremely tense and tight restricting the blood flow to this area.  By regularly massaging the head the hair follicles loosen enabling the blood cells to renew, flow and receive the nourishing nutrients needed to encourage hair growth and have strong shiny hair.
